USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN TEACHING LANGUAGE |

Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : ―We need no education‖, sang pop star Pink Floyd way back in the 70s in the famous super-hit album ―The Wall‖. While all this may sound fine, idealistic rebels, it is certainly not apply to the current education scenario. Technology is an ever-increasing part of the English language arts classroom. Today's teachers are developing new and exciting means of integrating language, writing, and literature with innovative technologies. Technology is a useful tool, but it should never be the heart of the teaching and learning experience. Students today are more accustomed to interactingwith their peers through texting, Twitter, and Face book. Virtually every type of languageteaching has had its own technologies to support it. Language teachers who followed the grammar-translation method (in which the teacher explained grammatical rules and students performed translations) relied on one of the most ever-present technologies in U.S. education, the blackboard—a perfect vehicle for the one-way transmission of information that method implied. The blackboard was later supplemented by the overhead projector, another excellent medium for the teacher-dominated classroom, as well as by early computer software programs which provided. |
